MetaTrader history workflow

Import MT4 and MT5 history into a local review workflow.

Forgalis TradingJournal reads supported history from the selected local MT4 or MT5 terminal, lets you preview and select the execution records, and stores the imported trades in your local journal for screenshots, notes and structured review.

The MetaTrader workflows are user-triggered and read-only. FTJ does not place, modify, copy or close trades.

Two supported platform workflows

MT4 and MT5 lead into the same FTJ review workflow.

Both workflows read history from a selected local MetaTrader terminal. The initial setup differs between MT4 and MT5, but both lead into the same FTJ review workflow.

MetaTrader 4

Connect the selected MT4 installation, keep the intended account active and load the history you want FTJ to read. Preview the available executions before importing them into your journal.

MetaTrader 5

Select the MT5 installation that contains the intended account and make the required history available locally. FTJ lets you preview the available executions before importing them.

The shared import flow

Review the local source before importing records into the journal.

Choose the correct terminal and account, make the required history available, then preview the records before importing them.

  1. 1
    Select the terminal

Choose the MT4 or MT5 installation connected to the account you want to review.

  2. 2
    Prepare the history

Open the intended account and make the required history available in MetaTrader.

  3. 3
    Preview the records

Let FTJ read the available history and review the executions before import.

  4. 4
    Import and review

Import the selected records, then add screenshots, notes and review context inside FTJ.

Local-terminal and read-only

Read broker history without turning FTJ into a trading terminal.

FTJ communicates with the selected MetaTrader installation on your computer. It does not provide a remote MetaTrader login, a cloud account connection or an execution service.

  • No order placement, modification, copying or closing through FTJ.
  • History is read only when you start the workflow in FTJ.
  • Preview and select the records before they are stored in the journal.
  • Selected records become part of the journal database on your computer.

What MetaTrader history can contribute

Bring in execution facts, then complete the record with your own review context.

Available fields vary by platform, broker and instrument. FTJ imports only the information the selected source exposes and does not invent missing historical values.

Execution details

Depending on the source, records may include symbol, side, quantity, price, timestamps and broker identifiers.

Costs and realised outcomes

Where available, FTJ can retain booked P/L, commission or fees, swap and relevant conversion information.

Journal context

Add screenshots, notes, strategies, confluences, exit reasons and other review fields after import.

Platform compatibility

Use your existing MT4 or MT5 setup with a local import workflow.

FTJ reads history from the MetaTrader terminal and account you select. This allows compatible broker accounts to use the same local workflow without requiring a separate connector for every broker.

  • Choose the terminal and account you want to review.
  • Import the history currently available in MetaTrader.
  • FTJ uses available contract-size information to normalise broker lots.
  • Use the imported trade and Lot Settings to confirm unusual instrument specifications.

Test your actual terminal

Import a small representative sample before moving your full review process.

The free Demo lets you test supported MetaTrader imports with documented trade-count limits. Verify the account mapping, quantities, costs and resulting review fields with records from the terminal you use.
