MT4 trading journal

Import MT4 history into a trading journal built for review.

Forgalis TradingJournal reads supported history from the MT4 terminal you select, then stores imported records in your local Windows journal so you can add screenshots, notes and structured review context.

The MT4 workflow is read-only. FTJ does not place, modify, copy or close trades.

Local MT4 bridge workflow

Connect the selected MT4 terminal without turning FTJ into a trading terminal.

MT4 uses the Forgalis MT4 Bridge Expert Advisor inside the selected terminal. The bridge exposes supported local account and history data to FTJ; it does not give FTJ order-placement capability.

  1. 1
    Select terminal.exe

Choose the MT4 installation containing the account you want to review.

  2. 2
    Install or update the bridge

FTJ uses MQL4/Experts/Forgalis MT4 Bridge in the selected terminal's data folder.

  3. 3
    Attach the current EA

Refresh or restart Expert Advisors, attach the current bridge copy to a chart and allow EA execution / AutoTrading so the read-only bridge can respond.

  4. 4
    Read and preview history

Load the required Account History, use Read Active MT4 Account in FTJ and inspect the available executions before import.

What AutoTrading means here

The bridge must be allowed to run, but the integration remains read-only.

MT4's EA permission is required for the Forgalis bridge to answer FTJ. That permission does not turn FTJ into an execution system.

  • FTJ does not place, modify, copy or close MT4 trades.
  • The selected terminal and account remain the source of broker history.
  • Replacing bridge files does not update an older EA that is already running on a chart; reattach the current copy before retrying.
  • FTJ checks bridge protocol compatibility before accepting contract-size-aware imports.

After the MT4 import

Add the context the execution history does not contain.

Broker history can provide execution facts. FTJ lets you keep those records with the screenshots, notes and repeatable review fields you use to understand the trade later.

Screenshots and notes

Attach chart images and written reflection to the imported journal record.

Structured review fields

Use strategies, confluences, exit reasons and other reusable fields consistently across trades.

Performance review

Return to dashboard measures, filters and individual records when repeated behaviour is worth investigating.

Choose the right platform guide

If your history source is MetaTrader 5, use the dedicated MT5 guide. The combined MetaTrader guide remains the overview for comparing both platform workflows.

Test your own MT4 setup

Import a small representative sample before moving your review process.

The free Demo lets you start supported broker imports while the journal contains fewer than 20 persisted trades. Verify the terminal, account mapping and resulting records with the MT4 setup you actually use.
